Transport for NSW has reviewed and enhanced plans to improve traffic flow and safety on Reservoir Road in Blacktown following community consultation on a proposed upgrade.
The original proposal included improving the existing pedestrian crossing on Reservoir Road near Theresa Street as well as installing full-time ‘No Stopping’ zone along Reservoir Road between Matthew Crescent and Cooper Street.
Transport for NSW asked the community for feedback, which showed support for the proposal and helped us better understand how the community uses Reservoir Road.
The community confirmed its support for the pedestrian crossing improvements and ‘No Stopping’ zones but expressed concerns about reduced safety for residents when exiting and entering their driveways, pedestrian and cyclist safety with the additional lane for vehicles, and changes to the way residents park their vehicles.
In response, a further review of the traffic data and environment on Reservoir Road was carried out.
As a result, Transport for NSW has made changes to the ‘No Stopping’ zones which are aimed at improving consistency and safety along Reservoir Road, especially during weekday peak hours.
As well, only nine parking spaces will be removed where ‘No Stopping’ zones will be installed, down from 15 spaces removed under the original proposal.
There will also be safety improvements to the existing pedestrian crossing near Theresa Street to encourage safer vehicle speeds and improve visibility and awareness of pedestrians crossing Reservoir Road.
This includes an upgrade to a raised pedestrian crossing, rebuilding of the existing kerb, installing new signage and providing a designated bus zone in both directions on Reservoir Road.
This project is funded under the Network Efficiency Program.
