Western Sydney Diabetes has reached the milestone of 10 years in operation. Unfortunately, Western Sydney is a diabetes hotspot.
The Western Sydney Diabetes team, based in Blacktown, is led by Professor Glen Maberly and supported by Sumathy Ravi, Heloise Tolar, Aruni Ratnayake and many others.
The team approaches the challenge in a holistic way by engaging with schools, encouraging physical activity and advocating for better urban design by improving transport, roads and recreational facilities.
Western Sydney Diabetes has started the "2kg Challenge" to encourage people to make minor changes to their daily routine that can result in huge health improvements.
The Blacktown Workers Club is the foundation partner of the program. It has actively encouraged its members to get a health check and get active.
I congratulate Western Sydney Diabetes for its noble cause and wish it all the success in the future.
