I have known Uncle Greg Simms since the late 1990s, and he has always cared deeply for his brothers and sisters. Uncle Greg is an Aboriginal Elder in Western Sydney of the Gundungurra, or water dragon lizard people, of the Blue Mountains; and the Gadigal tribe, or whale people, of the Dharug nation. Uncle Greg grew up in La Perouse on an Aboriginal reserve and for the past few decades has lived in Mount Druitt. Uncle Greg is an acclaimed artist, philosopher, reconciliation activist, storyteller, cultural educator, mentor, leader and Elder. Uncle Greg has donated many of his artworks to charities, and he has received many community awards and accolades. I know him as a person who reaches out and makes everyone feel special. I fondly remember in the early 2000s when he took me as his plus one to meet the Governor and when we were involved in a Cobham Youth Justice Centre support program. Uncle Greg, you are a truly beautiful human being.
